Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of AFNM. We'll visit the ephemeral Badger Spring Wash to see the effects of the ongoing drought and the Badger Fire that occurred June 2019. We'll note the seasonal birds (towhees, goldfinch, ruby-crowned kinglet, verdin, woodpeckers, wrens, and more) and early-season reptiles in this delicate riparian area. Butterflies. Petroglyphs and big metate at confluence w Agua Fria R. The trail is in a sandy wash with small rocks to step over. There might be some mud. Size limit: 10 persons. 2 miles round trip. Good for students.
Badger Spring Wash is located 50 miles north of Phx, off I-17 exit #256, one mile east of the Interstate. Free event. Meet at 8:00am at the Badger Spring Wash trailhead parking area just past the outhouse.
