Wet/Dry Mapping 2017

Dear Friends,

On the 24th of June, the tenth year of the annual Wet/Dry Mapping will be held along the Agua Fria River and its tributaries. Over the last decade, a monumental amount of data has been collected about the riverine habitat that will help with the management and protection of the river. Many of you have taken part in mapping over the years, but your help is needed more than ever to make this one of the best Wet/Dry Mapping events ever.

There will be W/D training on Saturday June 17 from 8am to 2 pm at the BLM Phoenix District Office (21605 North 7th Avenue, PhoenixAZ 85027-2929).

June 24 is the 10th annual Wet-Dry (WD) mapping of the Agua Fria River on the Monument.  Advanced registration is required. We send 18 teams of 2-4 volunteers to hike along the stream channel (2-5 mile segments) to document where surface water begins and ends. Requires use of a Garmin GPS unit and completion of paper data forms. The W/D training and team assignments will occur the previous Saturday morning, June 17, at BLM (see FAFNM Calendar).  Prepare for hot conditions.

This video (from the San Pedro group) provides a good introduction to the W/D work we will do on the Agua Fria.
